Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most famous individuals to ever walk on the planet but have we all been referring to the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid legend’s right name?
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most recognisable and memorable names on planet earth – but is that his real name?

He is the most followed person on Instagram, the proud owner of five Ballon d’Or titles, and his spells at Real Madrid and Manchester United have entrenched him in football history. Some love him, some loathe him, but almost everybody, including those who dislike football, know who he is.
Even when he was not playing for Portugal, he was the talk of the town during his country’s 6-1 victory over Switzerland. However, all of us may not know him by his official family name.
Officially, we all know him as Cristiano Ronaldo. However, according to Britannica, Ronaldo is not rooted in his family name. In full, the ex-Manchester United superstar’s name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.
His family name is officially ‘Aveiro’ and he is the only out of his siblings Hugo, Katia, and Elma who has ‘Ronaldo’ in his name. Out of his two sisters and brother, Ronaldo is the youngest member of the family.
And one privilege, if you want to call it that, is the fact his father, Jose Dinis Aveiro, chose to add the name Ronaldo onto his name.
Aveiro, who was a soldier and the equipment manager for their local club Andorinha, wanted to add Ronaldo onto Cristiano’s name as he was a huge admirer of former United States president Ronald ReAgan.

At the time of Ronaldo’s birth, Raegan was the Commander in Chief within the White House. Had Reagan not become president, we would likely know the iconic No.7 as Cristiano Aveiro.
