Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has warned the club against signing Chelsea loanee Joao Felix, despite recent rumors linking the Portuguese prodigy to the Red Devils.

Manager Erik ten Hag is planning a massive overhaul of his squad this summer, with 12 players set to be offloaded from Old Trafford.
The need for an overall was made clear on Thursday night when Manchester United suffered a harrowing Europa League exit in Sevilla. While the club is outlining targets to bolster its squad, Berbatov questions where the 23-year-old would fit in, stating that the club must sign players that fit well into Erik ten Hag’s system and know exactly what their job is when they play.
A move for Felix would set the Red Devils back around £90million, with the Spanish club keen to recoup much of the £113million they forked out in 2019.
The notion of the star remaining at Stamford Bridge beyond this season seems to be dwindling, after he was left out of their clash with Real Madrid last Tuesday. A return to Atletico Madrid is also unlikely after falling out of favor with Diego Simeone.
Berbatov, who won two Premier League titles with United in a four-year spell at the club, believes that signing a player just for the sake of it would lead to a big problem.
He argues that if a club signs big names who do not play as much as they believe they should be doing in their mind, they will not be as committed as they should be when they come off the bench for 10 or 15 minutes. Therefore, it is crucial to sign players that are going to play and fit well into Erik ten Hag’s system.
Felix arrived from Atletico Madrid in January but has struggled to make an impact after being sent off on debut at Fulham. While he is a great player that’s certainly capable of making a difference,
Berbatov doesn’t believe he will be going to Manchester United. Manchester United needs to be careful about who they sign this summer, as they have to rebuild the squad quickly to compete for the Premier League title next season.

With Berbatov’s warning in mind, Manchester United may need to reconsider their transfer strategy and prioritize players that fit well into Erik ten Hag’s system.
