The Eagles visited Old Trafford on Saturday (4 February). We won the game 2-1, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, while Jeffrey Schlupp managed to halve the Selhurst Park side’s deficit.

However, at around the 70th-minute mark, the two sets of players were caught up in a melee after a foul on Antony. Subsequently, the Brazilian’s compatriot Casemiro was one of the players involved in the scuffle.

The 30-year-old was seen with his hands on Will Hughes’ neck. After a VAR check, the midfielder was given his marching orders.

Now, Casemiro will miss the double-header against Leeds United and the Leicester City fixture. The Old Trafford side are also without some of their other midfield stars.

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Neville, who spent his entire playing career at Man United, feels the club could make it even worse if they appeal Casemiro being sent off.

“He’ll never get off. It’s too big of a risk, they could risk another game and they could increase it so they won’t appeal it. I think they’ll feel they can get through the three games [without Casemiro].”

The FA hold the power to extend a three-game ban to four if they deem an appeal ‘frivolous’. If that were to happen in the former Real Madrid star’s case, apart from the three PL matches, he would also not be able to feature in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

The Red Devils are already without Christian Eriksen. Erik ten Hag is also without Donny van de Beek for the rest of the season.
